Chapter 13 - THE BOARDROOM COUP

At 11:32 p.m., Maya entered the Sterling Medical boardroom wearing her stained waitress uniform.

Twelve directors stared at her.

At the head of the table sat Conrad Pike, Eleanor’s attorney.

“This meeting is private.”

Maya placed Clara’s trust on the polished table.

“So was the theft.”

Pike glanced at the document and laughed.

“A photocopy proves nothing.”

Captain Brooks entered behind Maya with two forensic accountants.

“The original was recovered from Clara Vale’s grave.”

The laughter stopped.

Gabriel connected his laptop to the wall screen.

Payments from Sterling Medical flowed through shell companies into Reed’s accounts and Eleanor’s private trust.

One director whispered, “That’s eighty-six million dollars.”

“More,” Gabriel said. “That’s only the last seven years.”

Pike reached for his phone.

Maya slid it away.

“You can call your lawyer after the vote.”

He smiled thinly.

“You still cannot remove Eleanor without Arthur Sterling.”

Maya produced Clara’s share certificate.

“I vote to freeze every transfer, remove Eleanor from all positions, and authorize a full criminal audit.”

The motion passed seven to five.

Pike stood.

“You have no idea who you just challenged.”

Maya met his stare.

“I challenged a woman who poisoned her husband, kidnapped a child, stole from patients, and buried a living woman under a death certificate.”

Her phone rang.

Julian was calling from the airfield.

Maya answered.

Gunfire cracked through the speaker.

Then Julian said, “We found Clara—but Eleanor locked her inside the plane.”

A jet engine roared in the background.

“The plane is moving.”
