Anna stared at Richard.

“To me?”

“You, or someone like you.”

He handed her a sealed page from Claire’s vault documents.

Claire had written it before Leo was born.

If anything ever happens to me, I want the person who helps raise my son to be treated as part of his support system, not disposable staff. Care is work, but it is also trust. Protect the people who protect him.

Anna read the paragraph twice.

Richard said, “I failed at that the day Vanessa accused you.”

Anna looked up.

“You corrected it.”

“After Leo pointed at a camera.”

“You were scared.”

“That doesn’t erase it.”

“No. But owning it matters.”

He nodded.

Richard had also found a provision allowing the trust to fund child-safety programs chosen by Leo’s legal guardian.

“I want to start something,” he said. “Training for nannies, domestic workers, teachers—people who see things inside homes and don’t always know how to report them safely.”

Anna smiled faintly. “That sounds like Claire.”

“I think she would have liked you.”

A month later, Vanessa accepted a plea agreement on several charges but refused to admit involvement in Claire’s death beyond knowing Graham had threatened her.

Graham did not get that option.

His recorded statement at Blackwood Tower, Claire’s garage video, financial records, and forensic evidence from the original brake line were enough to take the murder case to trial.

Richard testified.

So did Mrs. Bell.

So did Samuel Trent.

Anna testified only about Leo’s fall.

The prosecutor played the recovered staircase video.

The courtroom was silent when Vanessa pushed him.

Anna did not look at Vanessa.

She watched Richard.

He kept his eyes on the screen until the moment Anna caught Leo.

Then he closed them.

Graham was convicted.

Vanessa received a long prison sentence on the charges covered by her plea and related convictions.
