Chapter 11 - The Enemy Inside My Home

The photograph stayed on my phone screen.

Ellie.

Sleeping.

Inside my house.

Taken only minutes earlier.

My hands went cold.

Someone had been near my daughter.

Someone had been watching us.

“Mara.”

My mother’s voice pulled me back.

“We need to move Ellie.”

I nodded.

For the first time in years, I didn’t care about money.

I didn’t care about the company.

I didn’t care about the inheritance.

I cared about one thing.

My daughter.

I rushed upstairs.

Ellie was still asleep in her room.

Her small teddy bear was pressed against her chest.

She looked peaceful.

Like the world wasn’t dangerous.

Like people weren’t fighting over her future.

I picked her up.

“I’m here, baby.”

She opened her eyes slightly.

“Mommy?”

My heart broke.

“Yes.”

“Are we going somewhere?”

I forced a smile.

“Yes, sweetheart.”

“Where?”

I looked around the room.

At the life I built.

At the home I thought was safe.

“Somewhere nobody can hurt us.”

That night, the Kingsley security team moved us to a hidden estate.

A place even Grant didn’t know existed.

But before we arrived…

Someone attacked the convoy.

The first car stopped suddenly.

The guards reacted immediately.

“DOWN!”

Glass shattered.

People screamed.

I held Ellie against my chest.

Protecting her with my body.

Then everything went silent.

When the attack ended…

One guard was injured.

No one was taken.

But there was a message left behind.

A small blue envelope.

Inside was one piece of paper.

Only one sentence.

YOU CANNOT HIDE THE BLUEBIRD FOREVER.

My mother stared at it.

“This is impossible.”

I looked at her.

“What?”

She touched the paper.

“Only one person knew about this symbol.”

“Who?”

She looked at me.

“Your father.”

A cold feeling moved through me.

“My father is dead.”

She whispered:

“That’s what we were supposed to believe.”

Before I could respond…

A security officer rushed in.

“Mrs. Kingsley.”

“What happened?”

His face was pale.

“We found someone inside the safe estate.”

My heart stopped.

“Who?”

May you like

He swallowed.

“The person claims to be your father.”
