Chapter 15 - The Bluebird Clause

I woke up in darkness.

For several seconds…

I didn’t know where I was.

Then I heard her.

“Mommy?”

My eyes opened.

Ellie.

She was beside me.

Alive.

I pulled her close.

“Are you okay?”

She nodded.

“I was scared.”

My heart broke.

“I’m sorry.”

Then I noticed something.

The room wasn’t empty.

Someone else was there.

Grant.

He was sitting against the wall.

Injured.

“You saved us.”

I stared.

“What?”

He looked away.

“I got you out.”

I didn’t know what to say.

The man who betrayed me…

Had saved my daughter.

“Why?”

His eyes filled with regret.

“Because I finally understood.”

A pause.

“I almost lost the only thing that mattered.”

Before I could respond…

The door opened.

My father entered with Daniel and the security team.

The rescue was over.

Edward escaped.

But he left something behind.

The final Bluebird document.

My father opened it.

And read silently.

Then his face changed.

“What?”

He looked at me.

“Mara…”

“What?”

He handed me the paper.

The final clause.

The one my mother created.

I read it.

And my hands started shaking.

Because the Bluebird inheritance had one condition.

Not wealth.

Not power.

Not blood.

A choice.

The true heir will be the person who chooses love over control.

I looked at Ellie.

And suddenly understood.

The entire war was never about money.

It was about finding someone worthy of protecting the future.

Then Daniel’s phone rang.

He answered.

His face changed.

“Mara…”

“What?”

He looked at me.

“Edward wasn’t working alone.”

My heart sank.

“Who else?”

He slowly lowered the phone.

“The person who gave him access…”

May you like

A pause.

“Was someone inside Kingsley.”
