Chapter 17 - No One Believes Elena

Grant's confession connected the pieces.
He admitted deleting cameras, planting microphones, paying Dr. Keller, threatening employees, and helping Victoria move millions through shell companies.
He also admitted arranging the sabotage that caused Amelia's fatal crash.
"Why Elena?" Brooks asked.
Grant looked toward the mirrored glass.
"Because Amelia trusted her, and Elena never wanted money or power. That made her hard to control."
The recorded sentence from Amelia's last meeting spread across the news:
Then we make sure no one believes Elena.
Yesterday strangers online had called Elena a monster.
Now they called her a hero.
She hated both.
"They don't know me," she told Rosa. "They just changed teams."
Rosa stirred her coffee. "Then don't live for strangers."
Victoria was arrested on conspiracy, fraud, child-endangerment, and evidence-tampering charges, with more charges tied to Amelia's death still coming.
Thomas was charged over the federal bid and the threat to Rosa.
Pike cooperated.
Keller surrendered his medical license.
Marcus remained away from Hale Group.
At the hospital he found Elena outside Leo's room.
"The doctor says he'll be fine," Marcus said.
Elena closed her eyes in relief.
"Good."
"I don't expect you to return to the mansion."
"I'm not coming back as your employee."
He nodded. "I understand."
"But I want to stay in Leo's life."
Before Marcus could answer, Rachel Kim appeared with an envelope.
"Amelia already planned for that possibility."
