Chapter 15 - The Final Confrontation Begins

I didn't go alone.

That was the first mistake Michael made.

He thought fear would make me act without thinking.

But he forgot something.

I was no longer the woman standing against the kitchen wall.

I was the woman who survived.

The woman who protected her daughter.

The woman who learned the truth.

Charles refused to let me face Michael without support.

Ryan insisted on helping.

And even though I didn't know if I could ever forgive him...

I knew Lily deserved a father who tried to fix his mistakes.

We arrived at the abandoned building where Michael was waiting.

The place was empty.

Too empty.

Then his voice echoed.

"I knew you would come."

Michael stepped out.

He looked calm.

Almost peaceful.

"You ruined my life."

I looked at him.

"No."

His face changed.

"You ruined your own life."

He laughed.

"Just like your father taught you."

Charles stepped forward.

"Leave my family out of this."

Michael smiled.

"Family."

He looked around.

"That's what you all say when you want to pretend you're different."

He pulled out a folder.

"I have enough evidence to destroy you."

Charles looked at the folder.

"You don't."

Michael smiled.

"You're wrong."

Then he opened the folder.

Inside were photographs.

Records.

Messages.

And one final piece of evidence.

A recording.

A recording of Charles.

But something was wrong.

The voice sounded like Charles.

The words sounded like Charles.

But I knew my father.

And I realized immediately.

It was fake.

Michael had created another lie.

"You really think people will believe that?"

Michael smiled.

"People believe what they want to believe."

Then suddenly...

Police lights appeared outside.

Michael turned.

"What?"

Charles looked at him.

"You made one mistake."

Michael froze.

"What?"

"You kept talking."

The recording device in my pocket was still running.

Every confession.

Every threat.

Everything.

Michael's face changed.

Because for the first time...

He understood.

The truth was no longer something he controlled.

It was something that would destroy him.

But before police entered...

Michael looked at me and whispered:

"This isn't over."

May you like

And the way he said it told me one thing.

He still had one final secret.
