Chapter 16 - The Last Secret

The sound of police footsteps echoed through the abandoned building.
For the first time, Michael Grant looked uncertain.
The confidence was gone.
The smile disappeared.
Because he finally understood something.
He had spent years creating plans.
Manipulating people.
Collecting secrets.
But he never planned for someone to expose him.
The officers moved toward him.
"Michael Grant, you are under arrest."
He didn't fight.
He didn't run.
He simply looked at me.
And smiled.
That scared me more than anger would have.
Because people who have nothing left to lose can be dangerous.
As they walked him away, he whispered:
"You still don't know everything."
I froze.
"What?"
He stopped.
"Ask Ryan."
Everyone looked at Ryan.
His face changed instantly.
My heart sank.
Not again.
Not another secret.
Ryan lowered his eyes.
"Emily..."
I stepped back.
"What did he mean?"
Ryan didn't answer.
Charles looked at him.
"Tell the truth."
Ryan swallowed.
"I knew about one more thing."
I felt anger rising.
"Of course you did."
"I didn't know it would happen like this."
I laughed bitterly.
"That's what everyone says."
Ryan looked broken.
"Michael had information about Charles."
"What information?"
Ryan hesitated.
Then he said:
"Your father wasn't the only one hiding something."
The room became silent.
Charles looked at him.
"What are you talking about?"
Ryan looked at Charles.
"Your company had a secret project years ago."
Charles's expression changed.
A memory.
A regret.
Something he had buried.
That night, we returned home.
Nobody slept.
Because the question was no longer about Michael.
May you like
It was about my father.
And the truth he never wanted us to find.
