The suppression hearing became a spectacle.
Reporters gathered outside the courthouse.
Victoria's attorney argued that Sarah had motive to manipulate Ethan.

Influence over Leo.
Then he produced bank records.
Ten thousand dollars deposited into Sarah's account.
Sarah stared at the page.
"That's not mine."
The attorney smiled.
"Your name. Your account."
Nathan asked for the transaction origin.
The judge ordered it produced.
The money came from a Mercer Foundation vendor.
One of Margaret's shell companies.
The transfer date was two days after Caroline died.
Sarah had never noticed because the account had been opened using her identity.
Nathan dismantled the accusation piece by piece.
Then the baby-monitor manufacturer testified.
The camera was factory-installed.
Its cloud logs showed no edits.
The footage was authentic.
Victoria watched the screen play again.
Her thumb pressed the steam button.
Leo cried.
Her own voice whispered:
"Your father won't choose you forever."
Her lawyer stopped objecting.
The judge admitted the recording.
Outside court, Sarah expected relief.
Instead, she felt tired.
Ethan found her on a bench.
"You okay?"
"No."
"Fair."
She laughed weakly.
He sat beside her.
"I owe you more than an apology."
"You don't owe me anything."
"I do. You protected Leo while people with more money and power tried to make you invisible."
Sarah looked at him.
"Then don't make the next person invisible."
He nodded.
That night, Ethan announced a restructuring of the household and foundation.
Independent reporting lines.
No employee could control both security and personnel.
Medical access required dual verification.
The foundation board would have external auditors.
It was boring.
It was exactly the kind of boring Caroline had wanted.
Then Detective Chen called.
"Daniel Vale is missing."
Ethan stood.
"He was under supervision."

Chen read it.

Sarah felt cold.
"Who was?"
Chen continued.
"Daniel included a time stamp from the hidden clock."
The video showed a woman entering Leo's nursery the night Caroline died.
